Coverage

This database include ONLY car models sold in Japanese domestic market (including foreign models sold here) and target people from Japan as well as people from LHD countries in Asia and Africa who import used cars from Japan.

This database does NOT include car models made in Japan exclusively for export, for example Acura and Infiniti (Japanese brands aimed primarily for US market but sold also in Europe and Middle East), or example of Toyota models sold in US market but NOT sold in Japan: 4Runner, C-HR, Cressida, ECHO, Highlander, Matrix, Paseo, Previa, Sequoia, Sienna, T100, Tacoma, Tundra, Venza, Yaris. For these car models you can buy one my American databases.

Oldest car included is from 1986, but bulk coverage starts at 1989.

List of updates

A lot of people asked me for a JDM car database, but I was facing trouble because most websites from Japan are in Japanese language while they needed English specifications. In March 2019 a customer told me about one Japanese website in English and after this I found 3 more similar websites, I choose the best one, coded a scraper and published database for sale in April 2019.

Note: sales of Japan database been lower than expected. I do scrap makes to get models URLs (takes 2 minutes) then scrap models to get versions URL (takes 40 minutes), so I can monitor how many cars are added. I do scrap versions details (which takes 22 hours) ONLY WHEN someone purchase this database and/or ask an update.

from a different source
(notes below)

In 2019 I found 3 websites for Japanese cars specifications and I choose to create my database based on https://www.goo-net-exchange.com/. This website, although it have a field “fuel type” it is not indicated for any car. Fuel type is an important information for most of you, and one of you informed me in early 2024 that https://jpcenter.ru/ does provide fuel type. Due to this reason I no longer provided updates based on https://www.goo-net-exchange.com/ intending to investigate further and decide which website to use for future database updates.

I had a busy year… now in October 2024 I had time to investigate and found 5 websites with similar data but different number of car models in each one, making me questioning who copied who. https://jpcenter.ru/ beside having most specifications (about 100 columns) it also have 15% more models and 40% more versions than https://goo-net-exchange.com/ (even if historical coverage is the same: 1986-present) so I spent a week to recreate Japan Car Database based on https://jpcenter.ru/.

I offer this update for FREE in 60-column format similar with previous database, if you are interested in future updates, and/or in extra ~40 columns equipment / features, I can offer them for an extra fee.

  1. I noticed the discrepancy between the number of models and versions on different sites—what kind of criteria do you use to decide which source to prioritize? I’m also curious about how you ensure the data stays consistent, given that these sources may update their information at different times.
